I have also listed some Top Tips for hiring a car in the uk:
- Remember to check whether your ordinary car insurance gives any low cost additional coverage for your hire car, although the rates quoted
normally cover insurance for driving in the uk.
- If you drop your car of later than your pick up time, you will be charged for an extra day.
- You will need a valid driving licence, passport or some form of ID, your passport will do.
- A valid credit card.You will need to drive on the left hand side of the road, so remember to give way to traffic from your right when
using roundabouts.
- The speed limits for the motorways in the UK is 70mph, and on the city streets it is 30mph particularly in built up areas, but remember
to look out for traffic signs, as this can vary. The speed limits some major roads can be from 40mph up to 60mph, so check road signs to
avoid fines, big brother is watching you!
- There are now speed cameras on most stretches of major road and on some motorways. On the M25 there is a variable speed limit.
- All petrol stations sell premium, unleaded petrol (super and 95) and diesel. Many petrol stations have self-service machines taking
payment by credit card. In most cities it is usually possible to find a petrol station that is open 24 hours a day.
- Parking is prohibited on double yellow lines. Single yellow lines have restrictions which vary depending on the area - parking is usually
only permitted after 6.30pm.
- Wherever possible use designated car parks which normally require a small charge.
- Bus Lanes: In and around London there are bus lanes in operation. Do not drive in bus lanes as the fines for doing so is £80 - £100.
Buses are equipped with cameras.
- The use of mobile phones is now prohibited whilst driving in the uk, you are able to use mobiles with a "handsfree" kit.
